About Us

The Product Technology and Laboratory Department is a unit affiliated with the Turkish Grain Board General Directorate (TMO), which was established for the purpose of regulating wheat markets and exercising the state monopoly on narcotic substances. Following laboratory services carried out in cooperation with relevant university departments in the 1950s, the Department gained an independent institutional structure.

Today, TMO provides product technology and laboratory services through the central laboratory located in Güvercinlik, Ankara, as well as 15 laboratories operating under TMO Regional Directorates, following the establishment of the Product Technology and Laboratory Department within the TMO central organization.

At present, our Laboratory is accredited in accordance with the standards
TS EN ISO/IEC 17025: General requirements for the competence of testing and calibration laboratories and
TS EN ISO/IEC 17043: Conformity assessment — General requirements for the competence of proficiency testing providers.

In addition, our Product Technology and Laboratory Department has been licensed as a “Reference Authorized Classifier” by the Ministry of Trade on 18 May 2011, within the framework of the "Regulation on Licensing, Activities and Supervision of Authorized Classifiers", which was prepared based on Article 12 of Law No. 5300 on Licensed Warehousing of Agricultural Products. Within this scope, the audits of laboratories applying to the Ministry of Trade to obtain or renew an authorized classifier license in the product groups of cereals, pulses, and oilseeds are carried out by our Department.

History

Established on 13 July 1938 to regulate the wheat market and to exercise the state monopoly on narcotic substances, the Turkish Grain Board (TMO) has placed strong emphasis on research and development activities since its inception. Laboratory services, which were conducted in cooperation with relevant university departments in the 1950s, gained an independent structure in 1969. Today, following the establishment of the Product Technology and Laboratory Department within the TMO central organization, services are provided through the central laboratory in Ankara (Güvercinlik) and 15 laboratories under TMO Regional Directorates.

Initially accredited in 2009 for 8 test methods in accordance with TS EN ISO/IEC 17025, our Department has made significant progress in compliance with international standards throughout the accreditation process, continuously improving its quality level and increasing the number of accredited test methods to 41.

Within the scope of the Strengthening Quality Infrastructure in Turkiye Project (TKAG) conducted in 2011 by the Prime Ministry Undersecretariat for Foreign Trade and the Turkish Quality Association (KALDER), theoretical training on ISO 17043 and ISO 13528 standards (preparation of reference materials / proficiency test items) was delivered to our staff by Swedish expert Dr. Mikael KRYSELL at our laboratory.

As part of the accreditation studies initiated in 2011 in accordance with TS EN ISO/IEC 17043, our Department organized a total of 9 proficiency testing schemes, once per year, until 2022. In 2022, accreditation was granted under TS EN ISO/IEC 17043 as a Proficiency Testing Provider.
